The second version of the trailer for the upcoming version of Romeo & Juliet has been released.

This latest version of the classic Shakespearean love story turned tragedy is directed by Carlo Carlei with the screenplay written by Downton Abbey‘s own creator, Julian Fellowes.   The cast is star-studded with the likes of Hailee Steinfeld, Paul Giamatti, Ed Westwick, Stellan Skarsgård, Damian Lewis, Douglas Booth, Christian Cooke, and Tom Wisdom.

The film is scheduled to be released September 6, 2013.

It is time for the Americans to arrive at Downton Abbey for the filming of the Christmas Special!!!  Shirley MacLaine, who plays Cora’s American mother, and Paul Giamatti, who is making his Downton premiere as Cora’s playboy brother, join their British counterparts for some drama.

And It looks like everybody is enjoying the picnic including the newest trouble maker, the new governess, played by Daisy Lewis.  Oh my, the trouble she is going to cause!!!

On a side note:  As an American, I just can’t get used to calling this a Christmas Special.  Yes, they show it on Christmas Day but to me a Christmas Special is about Christmas and not shown just on December 25th.  I want the Christmas Special to have the tree and presents and everyone in the holiday spirit – not set in the summer and killing off people in car accidents.  Just my two cents from across the pond since it doesn’t really affect me since I won’t see it until February/March.

High society: Shirley pops on a feathered cap as her character hosts a society picnic
Change of style: Paul usually plays bumbling characters, but as Harold, he becomes a bit of a maverick
Troublemaker: Daisy's character plays a scheming governess who is rumoured to strike up a relationship with widowed Tom Branson

TV buff: Daisy has starred in Doctor Who, Lewis and Borgia as well as indie film Pusher last year
Modern times: Sophie McShera puts on some sunglasses that certainly wouldn't have been around in her character Daisy's time
Perambulator: Two extras push some old-fashioned buggies across a field

Julian Fellowes is a busy man these days!!  He isn’t only focused on his hit show Downton Abbey but has written the screenplay for the upcoming film Romeo & Juliet due out in theatres on September 6th.  (And he is listed as a Producer!!!  Like I said – he is busy, busy, busy!!!)

This latest version of the classic Shakespearean tale of star-crossed lovers is directed by Carlo Carlei and has a star-studded cast.  Hailee Steinfeld plays Juilet against Douglas Booth as her Romeo.  But we must also mention Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence, Ed Westwick as Tybalt, Damian Lewis as Lord Capulet, and Stellan Skarsgard as Prince of Verona.  Oh my!!!  I may just have to see this version of story just for the cast alone.

Downton Abbey:  Meet the new cast – Paul Giamatti

American Paul Giamatti is an Academy Award nominated actor known for his roles in such films as The Truman Show, Saving Private Ryan, Cinderella Man, American Splendor, Sideways, and The Illusionist.  He won an Emmy, Golden Globe, and a SAG award for his role as the title character in John Adams.

He will arrive at Downton in the Christmas episode as Uncle Harold, the wild playboy brother of Lady Cora.
