Downton Abbey, Hugh Bonneville

November 9th was Hugh Bonneville’s 50th birthday!!  And I missed it.  My apologies to Hugh for being a few days late.  But as I like to say, “better late than never.”

As we all know, Hugh Bonneville plays Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham on our beloved Downtown Abbey.

I wonder if Mrs. Patmore let Daisy make a birthday cake for Lord G?

Happy Birthday, Hugh!!!

In order to prevent another Season Three death-fest, the producers of Downton Abbey have locked in the key actors to large three-year contracts.  Woohooo!!!!!

After Dan Stevens and Jessica Brown Findlay decided not to renew their original contracts with the show and their characters had to be killed off – one on Christmas Day, no less – the show couldn’t afford another “exodus” from the key actors.  To solve that problem, it is being reported that the bigger names –  Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, and Allen Leech – on Downton Abbey have signed three-year contracts.  The Sun is reporting that some, if not all, are over £1m each.

An insider tells The Sun, “Downton’s charm is tradition so bosses were desperate to secure the show’s big names. All the major characters are now on big deals.”

That is excellent news for Downton fans everywhere!!!!  It is certainly an indication that we might get more than just a Season Five.  Wooohoooo!!!!

Downton Cast Told to Burn Scripts

Brendan Coyle, Downton Abbey, Highclere Castle, Hugh Bonneville

The bosses on the hit ITV period drama Downton Abbey are putting the breaks on spoilers by telling the cast and crew to burn or shred their scripts.

Sadly for the fans who love spoilers, the produces have even warned the staff at Highclere Castle, where the show is filmed, to be discreet about what they have seen when visitors to the Hampshire estate ask questions about the show and its upcoming storylines.

Brendan Coyle, who plays Lord Grantham’s valet John Bates, doesn’t even want the Downtonians to get a hint of this upcoming season of Downton Abbey as he explained to the Daily Express while attending Hugh Bonneville’s debut in the West End musical Spamalot.

“There are always so many leaks. Spoilers aren’t a good thing. Not just for those involved but for the audience.”

So of course when he was then asked the question what we could expect in the new series, he coyly replied: “It’s going to be good,” with a wink!

Does no one want us to have any fun?!?!?  Some of us love to have a clue about what is going to happen with our beloved inhabitants of Downton Abbey.
