Allen Leech, who plays former chauffeur and present estate manager Tom Branson on Downton Abbey, is moving to the big screen for his latest role in the chilling British horror film In Fear.  The move will be in theatres on November 15 and was directed by Sherlock director Jeremy Lovering.

Allen Leech plays Tom Branson in Downton Abbey

In the film, Leech plays Max, a local oddball who terrorizes a young couple when they get lost on their way to a music festival as it is becoming dark.

To keep the tension on set as real as possible, only Leech was given the full storylines so his co-stars Iain De Caestecker and Alice Englert would be realistically scared.

At first, the other actors weren’t quite sure whether to trust me or not,” he explains, laughing. I played the game that I didn’t know what was happening either. It was only in the last couple of days that they turned around and went, ‘You’re quite evil’. And that’s when they didn’t really hang around with me so much..

Allen Leech welcomed the chance to shed his nice-guy image from Downton Abbey.

Playing someone who’s so different from anything I’ve done before is really lovely, because you get to stretch yourself,” he says. “I got to go to a part of myself that, thankfully, I normally wouldn’t.

In Fear was first screened at the Sundance Film Festival this past January.  And according to imdb.com, there are only three cast members.Allen Leech

Since I don’t do scary movies, my fellow Downtonians will have to go in my stead to support Allen Leech in his new endeavor and report back how it was.

Michelle Dockery seen with New Mystery Man

Is life imitating art for Michelle Dockery? It appears so, as the Downton Abbey star, who plays Lady Mary on the show, has been seen with a new mystery man in Venice last week. I guess since Lady Mary is being wooed in Season Four by eligible bachelors it only seem right that Michelle gets the same treatment in real life.

The mystery man putting a smile on the face of Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary Crawley has been revealed, and the romance is believed to be thanks to the Downton chauffeur.

Love birds: Michelle Dockery's new man has been unveiled as John Dineen, 31, a financial PR

Apprently, Allen Leech, who plays Lady Mary’s brother-in-law on Downton Abbey, introduced John Dineen to Michelle Dockery.  It seems the pair hit it off since she was photographed in Venice with the 31-year-old financial PR director.

Very little is known about the new mystery man in Michelle’s life.

An associate of Mr Dineen, who works at FTI Consulting, told the Daily Mail:
“John is also from Ireland and went to University in both Cork and Dublin before
coming to London.

“He is very private and softly spoken but he has really been taken by Michelle.
Allen is an old friend and appears to have played Cupid.”

This blogger did a quick google search and found John Dineen’s LinkedIn profile.   It didn’t provide much new information (unless I upgraded my account) but it did have his “unsunglassed” picture for your viewing pleasure.

John Dineen

They do seem to make quite the cute couple and have that “new relationship” glow.  (I’m jealous!!!)

The pair were first spotted in Italy this weekend when Mr Dineen accompanied Michelle to the Venice Film Festival

Hopefully, Mr. Dineen won’t end up with the same fate as Lady Mary’s Mr. Pamuk or Matthew Crawley though.

Smitten: According to sources close to the financial PR, Mr Dineen is very taken with the Downton actress

Good luck, Michele and John!!!  Downtonians everywhere are pulling for your relationship.

Filming of Season Four of Downton Abbey is done and the show is about to premiere in the U.K.  Woohooo!!!    But, the cast must be bored with nothing to do.  Not so much for Allen Leech, who plays the former chauffeur, now estate manager/son-in-law, Tom Branson, on Downton Abbey.  He has just signed on for his first major Hollywood production in The Imitation Game which starts shooting next month.

downton 2Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightly are staring in the film about the famous Enigma code breaker Alan Turing.  No word yet on what role Allen Leech will be playing.

Keira Knightly, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alan Turing

Cumberbatch will be playing Alan Turing and Knightly will be playing Joan Clarke, Turing’s co-worker in Hut 8 at Bletchley Park, a good friend to whom he proposed marriage in 1941 despite being his being gay.  Turing later decided he could not go through with the marriage and the pair remained good friends until his death.

Turing was a mathematician and is famed for writing the first blueprint for modern computing. He also invented an electromagnetic machine called the ‘bombe’ which formed the basis for deciphering Germany’s Enigma codes during the war.

The work Turing and his team did at Bletchley Park has been credited with shortening World War II by as many as two years, but it is only six decades after his death that Turing’s contribution is beginning to be fully acknowledged .

Because of the Official Secrets Act, his code-breaking did not become public knowledge until twenty years after his suicide. His parents and brother never knew of his secret war efforts during his lifetime

Turing was found dead on 7 June 1954, a few weeks before his 42nd birthday, having apparently bitten into an apple laced with cyanide.

His death came soon after he was found guilty of gross indecency for homosexual acts (which were then illegal) avoiding prison by agreeing to be chemically castrated.

Despite his premature death aged 41, Turing was so prolific in the fields of mathematics, computer science and mathematical biology, specifically morphogenesis, that the Science Museum dedicated a whole exhibition to him upon the centenary of his birth last year.

The Imitation Game is an indie film being produced by Teddy Schwarzman with Nora Grossman and Ido Ostrowsky of Amersand Pictures.  Rumor has it that the budget is around $15 million.

Allen Leech, Dan Stevens, Downton Abbey, Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Brown-Findlay, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery

In order to prevent another Season Three death-fest, the producers of Downton Abbey have locked in the key actors to large three-year contracts.  Woohooo!!!!!

After Dan Stevens and Jessica Brown Findlay decided not to renew their original contracts with the show and their characters had to be killed off – one on Christmas Day, no less – the show couldn’t afford another “exodus” from the key actors.  To solve that problem, it is being reported that the bigger names –  Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, and Allen Leech – on Downton Abbey have signed three-year contracts.  The Sun is reporting that some, if not all, are over £1m each.

An insider tells The Sun, “Downton’s charm is tradition so bosses were desperate to secure the show’s big names. All the major characters are now on big deals.”

That is excellent news for Downton fans everywhere!!!!  It is certainly an indication that we might get more than just a Season Five.  Wooohoooo!!!!

Allen Leech in Twitter War with Isis

Allen Leech, Downton Abbey, Twitter

What is the world coming to?!?!?!  Allen Leech has started a Twitter War with our favorite Downton Abbey dog, Isis!!!

As every Downtonian knows, Allen Leech plays the former chauffeur, now family member and estate manager, Tom Branson, who was widowed last season when the lovely Lady Sybil died just after childbirth.  And Isis is the beloved Labrador Retriever that has free run of Downton Abbey as the Crawley family dog.

But what started the feud between Allen and Isis?  Isis always seems like such a well-behaved canine as she waggles her backside at us next to Lord Grantham as each week’s show opens.  She is devoted to Lord G as she sits with him in his study and we’ve never seen her chew a slipper or tinkle on a chair leg.  I am thinking Allen Leech started this rift.  But you be the judge for yourself.  Here is the tweet that @Allenleech posted recently:

Isis

“Now this is a step too far. That is MY top hat… #isis #diva gloves and hats are off!”

I think Allen Leech has set up poor Isis.  Tom Branson hates formal wear so why is he now claiming that it is his top hat?  How did a dog with no opposable thumbs get a hat on its head?  And how in the world is sweet Isis supposed to respond to his Twitter attack if she can’t type on her iPhone?  Is this Tom’s revenge for Lord G asking him to walk Isis while the family was in Scotland at the end of last season?  Or maybe it is really Lord G’s top hat and Isis is mad at Lord G for calling her lazy?

These are the questions I want answer!!!!  I need satisfaction that our beloved Isis will see justice in this maligning of her character.  Oh the injustice of it all!!!!
