inSTARZ has been busy today in the Outlander casting department. They just announced that Gary Lewis has been cast as Colum MacKenzie in the Diana Gabaldon best-selling book series TV adaptation.
Colum MacKenzie is the clan leader and maternal uncle of Jamie Fraser – also the older brother to Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish)
Lewis has had extensive movie and TV roles since 1993 according to imdb.com. (Gangs of New York is the only one I have heard of – guessing most are across the pond and not on U.S. TV.)
Outlander will hit the TV screens on STARZ in 2014.
I think Lewis and McTavish will be great as the brothers MacKenzie. They look enough like brothers to pull it off. Now if they would only cast Claire, I would be a happy Outlander Fan.

McTavish has had a long career and had roles in many TV shows and films – Lost, NCIS, CSI: Miami, Rambo, Pushing Daisies, Prison Break, 24, Secretariat, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – just to name a few. He has also done extensive voice work for many video games.
Outlander will hit the TV screens on STARZ in 2014.
Now, if they would only cast Claire, I would be a happy Outlander Fan.

STARZ announced that Tobias Menzies has been cast in the roles of Frank Randall and Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in the upcoming series Outlander.
Menzies is best known for his roles in HBO’s Game of Thrones, as the heir to House Tully of Riverrun, Edmure Tully and as Marcus Junius Brutus in HBO’s Rome. Menzies won a film role beside Dame Judy Dench in the 2006 James Bond franchise, Casino Royale. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1998 and began his acting career in popular UK series such as Foyle’s War, Midsomer Murders, Dr. Who: Cold War, and Casualty.
Menzies is joining Sam Heughan who was recently cast in the role of Jamie Fraser.
Outlander is an original series adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books and will premier on STARZ in 2014.
The “Outlander” series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
Frank Randall is Claire’s 20th century husband and a professional historian with a deep interest in the 18th century and his own genealogy. Frank and Claire are reunited in 1945, after being separated by the war. They are rekindling their relationship when Claire suddenly disappears. Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall is Frank’s ancestor from the 18th century. A Captain in the English Army posted into Scotland during a time when rebellion was rife. The nickname is no mistake; while Black Jack Randall may look striking similar, he is nothing like the gentle, bookish Frank; he is a dark, violent man who will take what he wants at any cost.
I think Tobias Menzies will make a fine Frank/Black Jack Randall. He has the look to be an innocuous scholar one minute and an evil black guard a minute later with just the rise of an eyebrow.
Now, if they would just cast Claire!! The Outlander fandom is waiting with bated breath.

inIT’S OFFICIAL!!!!!
From Diana Gabaldon‘s facebook page
I am UTTERLY delighted to be able to tell you that Sam Heughan is officially _confirmed_ as Jamie Fraser, for the new Starz cable-TV series!”Official press release/photo will be along shortly, I’m told. Meanwhile, I asked Sam how to pronounce his last name–just for starters <g>, to which he replied:
“HEW-an is goo…d or if you can, insert the Scottish throat clearing/spitting sound in the middle… HewCH-an. Hard to get right first time without spraying close friends with saliva.”(For those of you wondering whether he can say “Sassenach” properly)
Congratulations, Sam!!! We are looking forward to seeing Our Jamie come alive.
Now, let’s see who gets cast as Claire??? The pressure is on to get this right Ronald D. Moore.

inLooks like a few things were leaked recently regarding the casting of every Outlander’s favorite red-headed Scot, Jamie Fraser for STARZ’s upcoming tv adaptation of Outlander. It seems that Sam Heughan is it!!!!
The official Starz Twitter account confirmed as much on Friday with the tweet: “It’s #FollowFriday here at #Starz. Follow Sam Heughan (@Heughan) who will play the role of Jamie Fraser in #OutlanderSTARZ.” (The tweet has since been deleted and Starz says no deal has been signed.)
But leave it to Herself, author Diana Gabaldon, to give us some hints on her facebook page and twitter. In a series of Facebook posts, Gabaldon has endorsed his casting, defended him from doubters and even posted a shirtless photo of Heughan from a triathlon.
“I can’t confirm that the contracts are signed and Sam Heughan is officially Jamie Fraser,” Gabaldon wrote on Facebook. “But I _can_ say that he auditioned — and I saw the tapes. He was and is totally My top choice!”
(To see all of Diana’s facebook posts go to https://www.facebook.com/#!/AuthorDianaGabaldon/posts/565957493447091 )
If Sam Heughan is good enough for Herself then he is good enough for me. What are your thoughts???

STARZ and Sony Pictures Television are partnering to create Outlander, an original series adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling books to the small screen in sixteen episodes. Filming will start this fall in Scotland, with the premiere scheduled for 2014. Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore will write the series adaptation, with Moore and Jim Kohlberg serving as executive producers.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to bring these books to life. Diana’s created a rich and textured world filled with intriguing characters, and I believe that Starz is the perfect home for her story,” Moore said. “I think we’ll make something that the millions of fans of these books will enjoy and recognize as Outlander.”
Gabaldon’s seven-book series, which has sold more than 20 million copies, tells the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is swept back two centuries in time to a world where her life is threatened. When Claire is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a young Scottish warrior, she is torn between two different men and two different lives.
